Fitness Habits And Losing Weight

These days just about everyone you meet is looking to lose a few pounds. In fact, obesity is the number one health problem facing the developed world today. Fitness habits and losing weight go hand in hand in resolving this issue.

Some may think that the answer is pretty straightforward. The basic theory is that in order to lose weight a person must take in fewer calories than are burned for the same 24 hour period. However, calorie reduction which happens too quickly will cause the body to think it is starving and thus it begins to store fat so that it can be used later by the body as a food supply.

That means that in order to be successful in reducing calories it will need to be done slowly while increasing the level of fitness. Physical activity is an important part of the formula to lose weight.

There are simple things that a person can do to increase their fitness level. Too often it’s assumed a gym membership is a requirement and although that might be nice, for some people not being able to afford a gym membership is not a valid excuse for not getting fit.

Walking is not only cheap it is the best activity for both burning calories and keeping your heart healthy which is also very important. When a person is extremely out of shape, first consult with your doctor and once the go ahead is given, start slow for example go for a walk around the block.

Increase the speed of the walk or the duration of the walk as fitness improves and then incorporate some hills. If jogging is preferred it can also be incorporated into the workout.

Another option is to purchase fitness equipment for the home. This equipment can include rowing machines, treadmills, stationary bikes, and ski machines.

A treadmill takes up space but overall it is a great choice but they aren’t cheap. Stay away from bells and whistles and finding an affordable treadmill will not be a problem.

Stationary bikes have been around for a long time and they are also a good choice. They take up very little room, are low impact, and a great place to start getting into shape.

Rowing machines will give a total body work out and they have minimal impact on the joints which is beneficial for anyone with joint problems. However it can take a little bit of practice getting used to.

Ski machines are also a good choice for a full body workout however they do take up a fair bit of space. If space is no problem, they are an excellent choice but do start slow as injuries can occur.

Now that exercise equipment options have been covered, food now needs to be addressed. Start by doing a calorie calculation to determine the current calorie intake then reduce this by 250 to 500 calories a day. Do not reduce calorie intake by more than 500 calories or the body will go into starvation mode. To lose weight a man should be taking in on average no more than 2000 calories and a woman on average no more than 1500 calories. Of course if the daily activity level is really high then calorie intake will need to increase as well.

Fitness habits and losing weight go hand in hand because you cannot have one without the other. Combining calorie reduction with increased physical activity is the start to successful weight loss.

Why do people say losing weight with insulin resistance is very hard, or even impossible?

I have the more severe kind that makes some of your skin darker, and i have already lost 60 pounds in just a few months. Yet everywhere i look up my condition, it says losing weight is either going to be very hard or impossible. Am i just lucky that i can lose the weight with insulin resistance or is that a lie?

It’s a lie . People can’t lose weight because of 1 or 2 things. A low carb diet and exercise. Take out just 1 of these factors , then yes it is very hard to lose weight.

Congrats on your weight loss. I also have lost 60 pounds. And going for about 30 more .

There are so many different weight loss diets that you could choose from that it can make your head spin! Here are three different strategies designed to help you win this game and lose that extra weight in a good, safe way that does not put you in any danger of getting stuck in the yo-yo pattern. Losing Weight – the Unknown Sabotage at the Grocery Store

This article reveals some unique aspects of weight loss where you may be unknowingly sabotaging your efforts to lose weight by simple mistakes made at the grocery store.

Here’s something I noticed recently. I was at the grocery store a couple days ago picking up some food for a Mexican avocado rice-bean dish I was planning to cook up. While I was there, an interesting thing happened.

I went straight to the grocery store after finishing with a couple of my clients at the gym. As I was grabbing some frozen fruit and vegetables, a friendly lady (who must have seen that I was a fitness trainer from my shirt), asked for my advice on a couple of frozen box meals she was picking out (by the way, those frozen box meals are usually highly processed crap loaded with sodium and a slew of other chemicals).

Also, let’s make this clear that this woman was extremely overweight, and she mentioned that she has “tried everything” to lose weight and has always failed.

Keep in mind I hear about 50 people a day tell me they’ve “tried everything” to lose weight. The problem that they don’t realize is that they are trying all of the WRONG things… they are trying all of the gimmicks and fads that are out there instead of just adopting a TRUE active and healthy lifestyle.

Anyway, back to the lady in the store…

We started to chat about her struggles with weight loss, and I began looking over her grocery cart contents. If I can remember, these were some of the items she was buying that she thought were good for weight loss:

1. Fat Free Rice Cakes – Despite so many people believing these “pieces of cardboard tasting crap” are healthy… they really are nothing but pure refined starch with zero fiber, which basically breaks down almost immediately into sugar in your body, spiking insulin and promoting fat storage… does not sound so good anymore, huh.

2. Canned “weight loss” shakes – I can not mention the brand names, but I think you know what I’m talking about… These canned shakes are far from healthy…they are actually loaded with high fructose corn syrup, partially hydrogenated oils, and a bunch of other chemicals.

3. Reduced Sugar Dessert Cakes – Nothing healthy here either… these are loaded with artificial sweeteners, sugar alcohols, preservatives, and a chemical ingredient list about 15 lines long.

4. Canned fruit in syrup – I guess she could do worse here… but still, why not just eat fresh whole fruit which still contains the skins, fiber, active enzymes, etc, instead of resorting to processed, canned fruit that has been cooked and loaded with syrup.

5. Protein bars “Scientifically Slim Body Engineered” or some BS statement like that – I took a look at the ingredient list of these so called “healthy” protein bars and sure enough… partially hydrogenated oils, high fructose corn syrup, and enough sugar alcohols to give you diarrhea for a week!

Are you starting to see what is going on here? I see this same scenario all of the time.

The majority of people are fooled by what the FRONT OF THE BOX says, leading them to believe what they are buying is healthy and good for losing weight. On all of these items, the FRONT of the packages showed amazing sounding claims, such as “fat free”, “reduced sugar”, “high protein”, “low cholesterol”, “low carb”, etc.

However, the TRUTH is on the BACK OF THE BOX! Ah yes, the ingredient list and nutrition info is where the real truth is. I have realized that most of the general public does not know how to fully understand the ingredient list and nutrition info, so they rely on the advertising claims on the front of the box to guide them.

This is a BIG MISTAKE!

If you noticed, this woman thought she was doing great with her grocery shopping and buying all kinds of healthy stuff for her and her family that would be beneficial for losing weight.

In reality, almost EVERYTHING she was buying was highly processed and full of chemicals and industrially refined ingredients. No wonder “nothing has worked” for her to lose the weight… she actually hasn’t been doing anything right. She has been mislead by all of the confusing marketing and food labeling and conflicting nutrition info in the mass media.

The Importance of Weight Training in Losing Weight Fast

Many people that are seeking to lose weight do not understand the vital role that strength training plays in helping you to keep excess weight off permanently. Most people focus on diet and tend to ignore the exercise element. Even those that do develop the habit to exercise tend to only focus on aerobic exercise however you must not ignore weight training and just think that it is for bodybuilders or only for men since women need to build and maintain healthy muscles too. Tip 1: Just get started

The biggest step is to just get started as this is often the hardest thing for most people especially those that have never been on a weight training program before. Join a local gym nearby or buy a good piece of weight training equipment and go through a workout routine.

Weight training is very stressful on your body and it is designed to be stressful so as to trigger new muscle growth or maintain what you already have. Weight training helps to add muscle to your body which is critical since muscle burns calories continuously. This is important for weight loss purposes since if you can raise your overall metabolism then burning fat becomes a lot easier as it is very difficult and actually potentially dangerous to go on very strict low calorie diets.

Do not even bother trying those starvation diets as again they are very risky for your overall health and well being. It is not necessary to give up your favorite foods, you may need to lower quantities and portion sizes but if you like a food then go ahead and keep eating it and monitor your weight closely and make adjustments accordingly.

Tip 3: Train heavy for short periods

The whole point of a weight training workout is to trigger new muscle growth and not to spend hours and hours in the gym. A good workout routine can simply consist of 3 sets where the first 2 sets are light sets just to warm up and the third set is your heavy set where you lift the most weight you can for 5 to 8 repetitions.

The key point is to lift heavy enough weights to trigger new muscle growth. This does not mean you need to do a ton of reps or do reps until your muscles hurt. Just lift a heavy load for a few reps and that should be enough. Also know when to draw the line and know that you have built enough muscle and then focus on maintenance. Weight training can really make a big difference in helping anyone lose weight and stay fit so make it a regular part of your life. Follow some of these tips to help you get in better shape more quickly.
